The Reeves Council set Halloween trick-or-treating hours for October 31, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. They also set Christmas in the Park for Saturday, December 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. And the community gumbo will be held Friday, December 6.
The council discussed purchasing some new picnic tables for the park and planting crepe myrtles along the railroad tracks in the community as its beautification project.
The smoke free ordinance, which was discussed at the September meeting, was introduced at the October meeting. In November, the council plans to adopt the ordinance which will prohibit smoking in government buildings in Reeves and so many feet from the front of the building’s entrance.
The weight ordinance was passed by the council with limitations in the previous ordinance removed. A discussion occurred on introducing another ordinance to not accept cash bonds but security bonds for up to $250,000. This would help in case roadways were damaged in the community by large trucks and other types of vehicles. The addition was introduced as another ordinance. It will be accepted at the November meeting.
Randy Cowart was reappointed to the West Allen Parish Water District Board.
Coy Vincent with Gragson, Cassidy and Vincent LLP, discussed the village’s audit. It was a clean audit. The only thing discussed in the audit negatively was because there was only one person working in the village town hall a division of duties could not be broken down between office personnel to create a checks and balance system. There is only one person employed in the office, the town clerk.
