In Oberlin’s 34-8 win over Hamilton Christian last Thursday, Trevor Rider ran wild for 180 yards on 10 carries with three touchdowns.
The next leading rushed for Oberlin was Collin Chatman with 50 yards on six carries. Rounding out the top three was Malachi Simien with 40 yards.
Through the air, the Tigers amassed 138 yards from quarterback Levi Peloquin who completed four of his five pass attempts.
The scoring started for Oberlin when Peloquin ran into the end zone from two yards out. The extra point was good to put the Tigers ahead 7-0.
Later in the first quarter, Rider ran 10 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was again good to give Oberlin a 14-0 lead.
Rider, in the second quarter, sprinted 78 yards for his second touchdown of the night, and, with the extra point, Oberlin led 21-0.
The third quarter saw Peloquin connect with Seth Rider on a 35-yard pitch and catch for a touchdown. The Tigers pulled ahead 28-0 after the point after attempt. Seth Rider added another catch on the night and ended the game with 50 yards receiving.
Hamilton Christian put points on the board in the fourth quarter on a 15-yard touchdown pass and a successful two-point conversion to make the score 28-0 in favor of Oberlin.
The Tigers’ final touchdown of the night came on an 11-yard gallop by Trevor Rider.
With the win, Oberlin improved to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in district. The Tigers host Grand Lake tomorrow who is also 5-0 and 2-0.
The Hornets began the season with wins against North Central, Ville Platte, and Highland Baptist before garnering a 46-20 win over Merryville and a 28-13 win over Basile.
Meanwhile, at Lake Charles College Prep, Kevon Fontenot led the Yellow Jackets with 56 yards on 14 carries in Kinder’s 27-20 loss.
Also on the ground, Hayes Fawcett added 55 yards on eight carries, and Skyler Leckelt rushed nine times for 36 yards.
Fawcett completed one pass on the night to Leckelt for 16 yards.
Kinder scored the game’s first two touchdowns on a 12-yard Fawcett run and a 11-yard run by Gavin Johnson to put the Yellow Jackets ahead 13-0.
LCCP, then went on to score four unanswered touchdowns beginning with a 31-yard pass completion from Dillon Simon to Jaylen Joseph. Simon later connected with Glynn Johnson on a 35-yard strike before personally running in back-to-back touchdowns.
Kinder added another touchdown on a 77-yard kickoff return from Griffin Cooley.
With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fell to 1-4 on the season after its 48-22 win over East Beauregard. Kinder begins the district part of the season at home tomorrow against Rosepine. The Eagles are 2-3 on the season with wins against East Beauregard and Jonesboro-Hodge and losses to Mangham, South Beauregard, and Sacred Heart.
