Kinder’s plan ready for approval

Posted on February 24, 2022

The Kinder Council is scheduled to accept a redistricting plan at its March meeting on March 7. The plan the town is considering will keep District 1 as its minority district by utilizing some of the population shift from District 3 to bring the plan into balance. The minority population spread out between the two districts since the last census.
The plan also reshapes District 3 with some of the population from Districts 1 and 2, and District 4 will remain unchanged. By shifting these population numbers, the town will keep its four single district seats on the council and one at-large district.
The 2020 census indicated a population decrease of 12.4 percent in Kinder. Districts, during the last census (2010), were balanced with a population of 2,477. Now with a loss of 300 persons in the last census, each single district will feature a population count of 2,170 each (plus or minus five percent).
The town has to accept a plan before the November 8, election for city election purposes. Qualifying for the municipal elections are scheduled for July 20-22.
