The Annual Farmer and Rancher Appreciation Supper, hosted by the Kinder Chamber of Commerce in the fall of each year, will be Tuesday, October 5, at 6 p.m. at the Kinder Community Center.
Guest speakers will be Joel Jackson, a professor for the McNeese Agriculture Department, and Shae’ Simon, interim executive vice president of the Louisiana Cattleman’s Association, according to Chamber Executive Director Barbara Savant.
Jackson oversees the McNeese CAMPP (Center for Advancement for Meat Production and Processing, which is located in Lacassine. He has been with the college for 10 years. He said CAMPP is the only federally inspected red meat slaughter facility in the state. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, food safety and safety inspection service oversees the CAMPP. Jackson is married to Lauren and the father of two children. He is a native of Duson.
He will be discussing the production of cattle with the parish and the sale of beef products opposed to live cattle sales at the sale barn. He will give local meat industry updates.
Simon will be discussing registered livestock.
Simon was recently named the association’s new interim executive vice president. She is working on her master’s in agricultural science at Sam Houston State University. She previously earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science at McNeese State University. She and her husband grew up in the beef industry and are excited to connect with Louisiana cattlemen and women through LCA.
Allen Parish is in LCA’s District V region, which is composed of Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Jeff Davis and Cameron parishes.
All farmers, vendors and banks in the parish are invited. Crab and shrimp gumbo is on the menu.
Door prizes are being sought. Savant said anyone with a door prize should contact the Chamber. She thanks everyone for their donation.
