Spring started off beautifully with the Village of Elizabeth’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt back in full swing. Thousands of eggs were scattered across A.B. Finks park as children from infant through teenagers ran and hunted them. Eggs were filled with candy and tickets that could be exchanged for prizes. While being served food provided, families relaxed near the tennis courts and play-ground visiting with fellow neighbors and friends, making this event seemingly the closest thing to normal since Covid hit one year ago last month. When asking a fellow egg-hunting parent how it felt to join back in on an event like this, they exclaimed that it was very exciting to see everyone laughing and mingling about; it has been a hard year and it seems like a sense of normalcy has finally returned.
Along with hunting Easter Eggs, there were several jump houses as well as a zipline and foam dispenser. A mechanical bull in the middle of a jumper was also in attendance giving children the opportunity to ride and get bucked off. The Easter Bunny himself even made an appearance. The Village of Elizabeth provided all the attractions free of charge to everyone in attendance. The sight of everyone laughing and playing set the scene quite differently from the Easter that we knew one year ago.
This event also led the showcase of the Med Express ribbon cutting. Med Express will be located within the Fire Station in Elizabeth. Mayor Mandy Green stated that approximately 300 people showed up for the event. When asking how her it felt to have the egg hunt again this year, she said that it almost did not happen. Governor Edwards just recently moved the state into Phase Three for Covid guidelines and at the last minute they decided it was what the community needed. There were a few changes to the usual order of festivities so individuals would have the opportunity to spread out over the entirety of the park. Mandy said this event would have not been possible without ALL of the sponsors, most who had initially sponsored the 2020 event. Mica McDaniel donated the 5000 eggs for children to hunt and they were stuffed by the youth from New Hope Baptist Church that is located in Elizabeth.
