Mayor Wayland LaFargue gave the council an update on the town’s infrastructure damaged from Hurricane Laura. He explained which buildings would need repairs, the pump station, etc. It was noted the second hurricane (Delta) brought more damage.
After the meeting, LaFargue said the debris company should complete its job of picking up debris from the hurricane within the next few weeks.
The council approved the resolution giving Wesley Miller, Pan American Engineers, the authority to continue seeking funding from the Louisiana Watershed Initiative Grant. The town began its pre-application before COVID-19. Everything was put on hold, and now it’s time to submit the application. The town is hoping to gain funding for drainage improvements in the Nixon Addition.
Councilwoman Latoya Tunwar received an update on a property. After the meeting, the mayor complimented Officer Shannon Fontenot, who handles property issues as code officer for the town. “He does a great job.” The mayor also thanked the property owner for complying with the ordinances and bringing their property up to code.
After the meeting, Police Chief Paul Courville also praised Fontenot for enforcing ordinances. He said for ordinance violations, contact the Kinder Police Department and it will be referred to Officer Fontenot.
In other business, the town:
•Added an amendment to the police’s policy and procedure manuel regarding body cams and recordings as requested by Police Chief Courville.
•Approved the minutes of its September 14, meeting.
•Approved Section 8 Public Housing Agency Annual Plan FY 2020-2021, Resolution No. 2020-04.
