The annual Kinder Chamber of Commerce Farmer and Rancher Appreciation Supper was held Tuesday, October 6, at the Kinder Community Center. On the left, Jason Hebert, vice president of the Chamber and master of ceremonies for the event, welcomed guests. In the second photo, Sullivan Fontenot, local FFA advisor at Kinder High, introduced his organization’s student members. The FFA Club assisted with serving guests. In the third photo, Cesilee Oliver, president of FFA at Kinder High said a few words. In the fourth photo, Dr. Mike Strain, Commissioner of Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, was the guest speaker. He discussed his agency’s duties as well as funding for agriculture programs like hurricane recovery, etc. He also spoke on the advancement of agriculture like genetics engineering and the things being done with seeds. Also at the meeting were Cade LeJeune, executive secretary for Louisiana FFA, LSU Ag Center, and some state FFA officers including Elton’s Kaleb Lemoine, who is serving as Louisiana’s President for 2020-21. LeJeune discussed the importance of FFA and how students learn from the program and develop skills to become better leaders. Barbara Savant, executive director, thanked everyone who donated items including Cleco for sponsoring the banquet and Louisiana Seafood Commission for supplying the shrimp and crab gumbo.
