Hurricanes couldn’t stop Allen Parish from seeing a slight 1.41 percent increase in sales taxes collected in the month of September.
This time last year the parish had collected $1,240,065.85 compared to this year’s collections of $1,257,523.02 that is a $17,457.17 increase.
The entities who saw increases were Allen Parish School Board No. One and No. Two, who collected $443,708.11 this year compared to last year’s $423,492.54. That is an increase of $20,215.57 or 4.77 percent.
Allen Parish School Board No. Three collected $221,987.94 this year compared to last year’s $218,355.46. This was an increase of $3,632.48 or 1.66 percent.
The Allen Parish Police Jury saw an increase of $2,542.68 or 1.66 percent. They collected $155,391.95 this year compared to last year’s collections of $152.849.27.
The Town of Oberlin increased $3,225.54 or 21.35 percent when they collected $18,332.12 for September 2020 compared to the $15,106.58 collected in September 2019.
The Village of Elizabeth collected $6,885.19 for September 2020 compared to September 2019’s collections of $5,837.94. This was an increase of $1,047.25 or 17.94 percent.
Allen Parish Sheriff District saw an increase of $3,632.43 or 1.66 percent when they collected $221,987.90 this year compared to last year’s collections of $218,355.47.
The Village of Reeves collected $3,200.50 for September 2020 compared to 2019’s collections of $2,950.72 this was an increase of $249.78 or 8.47 percent.
The other parish entities saw decreases in collections for the month of September 2020. The Town of Kinder decreased $6,028.99 or 12.08 percent. They collected $49,904.16 last year and $43,875.17.
The City of Oakdale saw a drop of 7.56 percent or $9,111.97. The city collected $120,518.76 in September 2019 and only $111,406.79 for September 2020.
The Town of Kinder Library/Sewerage Tax collected $13,162.51 this year which was a $1,808.85 or 12.08 percent drop from last year’s collections of $14,971.36.
The Allen Parish Occupancy Tax only dropped slightly by 0.78 percent or $34.68. They collected $4,396.22 last year and $4,430.90 this year in September.
The Allen Parish Tourist Commission also saw a slight 0.78 percent decrease or $104.07. They collected $13,292.69 in September 2019 and $13,188.62 in September 2020.
Overall the parish as a whole increased in collections. This report is a reflection on each entity and the sales made in that area. This is a snapshot on how the parish is faring and if the residents as well as tourists are shopping locally when possible. When the entities see increases this gives them the funds needed to make improvements to things such as infrastructure, schools and other beautification projects. When you shop local you give back to your town and parish.
