It was a night of getting it on the record and completing housekeeping for good government practices in Kinder.
The council approved and completed the paperwork to continue receiving one percent of a sale tax renewed in the election held November 16, 2019. Members also approved several contacts dealing with debris cleanup in regards to Hurricane Laura.
Spenzr Disaster Relief was selected for debris removal and hauling of debris. Cartoydne was approved to monitor the debris. All of this had to be done within FEMA guidelines. Safework Inc. was approved as program manager, and will help the community secure FEMA dollars for debris removal, to repair damaged structures, etc. Guidelines continue to change for these programs, so the company will be valuable to meet deadlines, etc. to get dollars to assist the city in its cleanup.
Mayor Wayland LaFargue thanked everyone for assisting with the cleanup of the town after the storm.
Police Chief Paul Courville said he promoted within the department to fill a vacancy in staff. Beatrice Leger, a dispatcher, was moved to patrolman. Part-time dispatcher Phobe Westmoreland was moved to full-time.
Wesley Miller, engineer, reported he was applying for funding on behalf of the town to improve its wastewater plant. The town is also looking at loans to secure monies for this project.
