Kinder Police Officer Jackie Lynn Holland, 55, (September 4, 1964 – August 29, 2020) died Saturday, August 29, after collapsing.
Holland had a total of 24 years in local law enforcement. He worked 16 years for the Kinder Police Department and eight years at the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office. Funeral services were held for him at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at Creel Memorial Gardens.
Police Chief Paul Courville said Holland was a dedicated officer. In a statement on Facebook™, he said, “As many of you may know, yesterday we lost a great man, a true friend. We lost someone who would give you the shirt off his back even though he knew he would freeze.”
Courville said Holland was always dependable and had a good attitude about everything, a good demeanor in life.
“I swear he never had a bad day. We’re going to miss him. It wasn’t just a good job he did, he was family. He was a friend.”
Holland was described by Chief Courville as a man who would make someone laugh so he could laugh with them.
Courville said Holland was the man you went to when you needed a lawn mower or generator fixed. He said Holland could fix anything, and he took great pride in that.
Described in his obituary as a family man with strong faith, Holland enjoyed visiting in the community, cracking jokes and making people laugh. It was how people knew him, and everyone said he liked to answer others with phrases like “well now” or answer “just peachy” when asked how he was doing.
Chief Courville wrote, “Jackie from your brothers and sisters we will miss you, but we want you to know everything with be as you always said, ‘Just Peachy!’”
Kinder Mayor Wayland LaFargue had spoken to Holland two days before his death. He said the man was dedicated to the police force. “He always had a smile on his face. You swore he never had a bad day. We are praying for his family.”
Holland leaves his wife of nine years, Kim; his parents, Lloyd Holland of Topsy and Georgia Holland of Kinder; one son, Mitchell Holland of Sulphur; one daughter, Samantha Holland of Lake Charles; one brother, Dwane Holland of Topsy; one sister, Kari Broussard and husband, Joel, of Oakdale; one nephew, Jacob Holland; and four nieces, Molly Fontenot, Johnna Parker, Karlee Buxton and Kami Buxton.
According to the many comments posted, the community is keeping the Holland family in its prayers. Holland was a respected and liked officer.
