Allen Parish Sheriff Doug Hebert III’s office worked with other agencies to make three arrests and recover stolen property.
The sheriff said on Monday, July 22, 2020, Oberlin Chief of Police Grady Haynes contacted the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office in reference to assisting Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office in locating a burglary suspect from their jurisdiction. The suspect was believed to be at the Crossroads Inn in Oberlin.
The suspect, identified as Olivia Curry, was wanted by the state of Texas for armed robbery. She also was a suspect in a burglary investigation being conducted by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriffs’ Office.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office sent detectives and SWAT personnel to assist in the investigation in Allen Parish. Hebert said due to the severity of the active warrant and case, the Allen Parish Sheriff’s SWAT Team was dispatched to the area and was able to detain three individuals, including Curry. Upon further investigation, it was learned the three suspects, Olivia Curry, Deon Butler and Davon Butler were in possession of stolen items including several bottles of prescription medication, firearms, a stolen safe and ammunition that were stolen from a residence in Calcasieu Parish, but had since discarded all of the items in a wooded area near a canal in Oberlin. Detectives were able to recover the stolen items which will be returned to the rightful owner. During the detention, Davon and Olivia were also in possession of marijuana. All three individuals were arrested and booked into the Allen Parish Jail.
•Olivia Faithmarie Curry, 19, of Tracy, California, was charged with illegal possession of stolen firearm, obstruction of justice, possession of CDS (controlled dangerous substance) Schedule I and illegal possession of stolen property.
•Davon Shamar Butler, 17, of Oberlin, was charged with illegal possession of stolen firearm, obstruction of justice, possession of CDS Schedule I and illegal possession of stolen property.
•Deon Canoy Butler Jr., 21, of Patterson, California, was charged with illegal possession of stolen property, illegal possession of stolen firearm and obstruction of justice.
