Councils on Aging offices across the state. within Cleco’s service territory, accepted fans and monetary donations by appointment only June 22, through July 3.
“The fan drive is important to us because fans help our elderly customers keep cool during our hot summer months,” said Ron Smith, director of customer experience for Cleco. “Furthermore, fans can help customers conserve energy. Air conditioners are typically the largest energy users in a home, and raising the thermostat to 78 degrees and using a fan can help the air temperature feel 10 degrees cooler and help reduce energy usage.”
“So many of the aging need the fans as many do not have A/C and at times it’s too cool for them. We appreciate CLECO for the many years of heading this drive along with Councils on Aging,” said Pat Jones, executive director for COA. “We also appreciate the good citizens and businesses in Allen Parish who contribute each year to assist us. The drive for fans ends July 15th, and we will begin distributing the fans the next week. Anyone interested in donating fans or receiving a fan can call Allen Council on Aging at 800-256-2851. “
The agencies began distributing fans to the elderly by appointment only beginning July 6. To request a fan, seniors should contact their local agency and make an appointment. To receive a fan, seniors must be a Cleco customer and 60-years of age or older.
Allen Parish Council on Aging is located at 602 E 5th Ave, Oakdale and can be reached at (318) 335-3195.
In addition to adjusting thermostats, Cleco recommends the following tips to help lower energy usage:
•Install a programmable thermostat and raise the setting to the highest comfortable temperature.
•Use heat generating appliances such as dryers and ovens at night when temperatures are cooler outside.
•Seal holes and cracks around windows.
•Keep curtains and blinds closed during the day.
