AP towns see decrease in monthly tax collections

Even during a national pandemic taxes are collected. Although many entities saw a decrease in sales tax collections for the month of April, overall the parish increased by $208,191.18 or 17.23 percent. The parish collected $1,208,223.06 in April of 2019 and collected $1,416,414.24 for the month of April this year.
The entities that saw an increase in collections for April 2020 were Allen Parish School Board no. one and no. two and the Town of Oberlin.
APSB no. one and two collected $502,198.26 for April 2020 that is an increase of $242,679.59 or 93.51 percent from their April 2019 collections of $259,518.67.
The Town of Oberlin collected $20,600.86 for the month of April 2020. This is an increase of $2,216.91 or 12.06 percent from their 2019 collections in the same month of $18,383.95.
All other entities collecting in Allen Parish showed decreases in collections. This shows a decrease in local shopping. This should be no surprise as most businesses, save the few essential businesses, have been forced to close their doors during the COVID-19 pandemic that has halted life as locals know it.
Allen Parish School Board no. three collected $251,097.18. This was a decrease of $6,714.35 or 2.6 percent from their April 2019 collections of $257,811.53.
Allen Parish Police Jury collected $175,768.78 for April 2020. This was $4,699.55 or 2.6 percent less than their $180,468.33 collections in April 2019.
The Town of Kinder collected $49,059.41. This is a decrease of $2,407.58 or 4.68 percent from their collections last year of $51,466.99.
The Village of Elizabeth collected $7,179.78. This is a decrease of $390.39 or 5.16 percent from their 2019 collections of $7,570.17.
The City of Oakdale collected $126,775.86 for April 2020. They saw a decrease of $2,798.45 or 2.16 percent from their April 2019 collections of $129,574.31.
The Town of Kinder Library/Sewerage district collected $14,717.92. This is a decrease of $722.30 or 4.68 percent from the $15,440.22 collected in April 2019.
The Allen Parish Occupancy Tax collected $3,430.69. This was $2,386.51 or 41.03 percent less than the $5,817.20 collected in April 2019.
The Allen Parish Tourist Commission collected $10,292.08. This is $7,159.48 or 41.02 percent less than the $17,451.56 they collected in 2019.
The Allen Parish Sheriff District collected $251,097.20 for April 2020. This is $6,714.27 or 2.6 percent less than April 2019’s collections of $257,811.47.
The Village of Reeves collected $4,196.22 for the month of April 2020. This is $2,712.44 or 39.26 percent less than the 2020 collections of $6,908.66
