Although Kinder will not have an organized Day of Prayer at Lambert Park on National Day of Prayer, organizers of this event are hoping citizens stop at noon and take a moment to pray.
Mike Smith, who usually takes the reins in organizing this event said plans changed due to COVID-19. The event had to be cancelled in March when the first stay-at-home order was issued by the governor. And with COVID-19 that order will remain in effect through May 15, making it impossible to gather in large numbers.
The National Day of Prayer is held on the first Thursday of each May. Smith said local pastors may want to do something with the congregations in their churches, so residents can check with their church leaders.
Smith is hoping everyone stops at noon and participates in the prayer vigil. He asked everyone to remember our nation’s nurses, doctors and first responders this year in prayer, because they people are on the front line fighting COVID-19.
“You can still observe it in your own private way,” Smith said as he explained the Kinder event would not be held this year.
Smith said each year Kinder meets and prays for churches, the Town of Kinder and its leaders, parish government leaders, federal government leaders, military, media, business, education and families. This year he asked everyone to remember COVID-19, those sick and those fighting to keep everyone well.
The national website for this event is www.nationaldayofprayer.org. The theme for the year is “Pray God’s Glory across the Earth: “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” (Habakkuk 2:14).
