When you think Coronavirus (COVID-19) and how it is affecting your shopping, consider how grocery stores and other businesses are restocking their shelves.
Samantha Bertrand, co-manager at Market Basket in Kinder, said they are receiving deliveries from the warehouse on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but their loads have been rationed. This week they were waiting for about 5,000 cases of products and only received about a 1,000.
“We ordered,” she said.
Like the store, the warehouse also is out of toilet paper, Bertrand said. According to members of our staff, no toilet paper could be found over the weekend in Eunice, Kinder or Oakdale.
Bertrand said the warehouse is sending out about a 100 trucks a day to deliver groceries to stores like Market Basket, Super One, Piggly Wiggly, etc. It’s located on the other side of New Orleans. She said manpower also plays a huge role in supplies grocers.
Bertrand said she has never seen it like it has been at the store, even when a hurricane is approaching. She said someone from West Texas called to see if they had formula. They were willing to drive 16 hours for the formula.
Employees at Market Basket are working hard to put supplies back on the shelves. They also are doing hourly sanitizing of the store and area where shoppers are located.
“We are doing the best we can with as much volume as we are doing,” she said.
