The mayor’s court in Reeves will be able to hear some minor criminal charges in the future. The council adopted the first ordinance of the year setting guidelines for which criminal charges could be heard by the mayor’s court and which charges would be moved to district court.
In old business, the council discussed repairs to Rodeo Pen Road. Earlier in the year heavy equipment had passed on the road causing damage. A representative from Frey Contruction and Dirt Service agreed to pay $7,000 toward repairs to the road. Reeves will pay $3,000 toward the asphalt repairs.
Police Chief Waylin Bertrand asked the council for $11,000 to repair the roof of the building behind the police station where they store equipment. The council agreed to make the repairs.
Bertrand also noted the town’s full-time officer Richard Regall is leaving for employment elsewhere. His last day would be January 28. The council agreed not to rehire at this time. They will study the situation and what the village needs before deciding whether to fill the position.
Residents of Reeves are reminded plans for the Heritage Festival are underway. This year’s event will be moved to the Ward Three Recreational Park in Reeves. It will be held on Saturday, May 9.
