Qualifying for the April 4, Presidential Preference Primary is underway until Friday, January 10. It began Wednesday morning, and candidates wishing to qualify can do so at the Allen Parish Clerk of Court office (337-639-4351).
This election is unique because it allows registered Republicans, Democrats and Independents to cast a vote for their preferred presidential candidate for their party. These are the names that will be placed on the ballot for the November 3, Presidential General and Open Congressional Primary Election.
The April ballot also includes local level candidates for both the Republican and Democratic state central committees and executive committee members.
In order to vote in this election, Allen Parish Registrar Monica F. Warren reminded residents they must be registered as a member of the party. Now is the time to check your voter information to make sure if you have a party affiliation. She said there are several ways to do so including calling her office (337-639-4966), downloading the app – Geauxvote.com or visiting the voter portal on the state website, www.sos.la.gov.
Warren said the mobile app is filled with lots of information. A voter can check on their personal information, see a ballot, keep up with election results and even set notifications.
For those wishing to run for their party’s open seats during this qualifying period need to remember to bring cash with them this week.
Early voting for the election will be March 21-28.
