The Oberlin Council learned at its meeting Tuesday, November 12, that construction at city hall had been completed. Employees already had started the process of moving back into the former location of town hall. As of press time, employees expected to be working from city hall once again Monday, November 18. City hall had been updated to meet handicap guidelines, etc.
The council discussed paying bills. Councilman Bobby Thomas wanted to know why August bills were still in the stack. Mayor Joseph “Moochie” Manuel said bills were being paid every month after they were approved.
Occupational licenses were discussed, because there are some who have not paid their licenses. Ways to make sure license fees were being paid by everyone were discussed. One idea was to have the fees added to the individual’s taxes. The council will be discussing this matter to find other alternatives, because some are refusing to pay their license fees.
