The Fifth Annual Veterans Day Pancake Breakfast welcomed 285 people to the event.
Eric Kuyper, commander of the Alvin L. Nevils Post 244 American Legion Hall and event coordinator, said this was the biggest breakfast to date and posted online what it took to feed 285 people. He said 40 volunteers worked to feed everyone, and 82 veterans were recognized at the doors. Seventy-five door prizes were donated by supporters of this unique event, and veterans were the recipients of the prizes.
The day also was filled with local politicians visiting with the community and veterans attending the event. Kuyper said Louisiana State Senator-elect Heather Cloud made an appearance along with Kinder Mayor Wayland LaFargue, Allen Parish Sheriff’ Doug Hebert, Kinder Chief of Police Paul Courville, etc.
He said the most important thing was “our veterans and our community coming together.” He thanked everyone for the support they gave to this event. He thanked all the volunteers for their hard work, and then asked, “What does it take to feed 285 people?”
