The Kinder Chamber of Commerce’s annual recognition of its area farmers and ranchers, along with agriculture-related vendors, is what makes the Farmer/Rancher Supper unique each year. Good food, an update on the agriculture community, lots of laughter, door prizes and conversation will be continued this year.
Louisiana Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, DMV, will be the guest speaker. He plans to update the crowd on the state of agriculture.
Mike sought the state office in 2007 and won. He was re-elected in 2011 to the seat. Born and raised on a cattle farm in Covington to Butch and Carolyn Strain, Mike pursued a pre-veterinary degree in medicine at Louisiana State University. He earned a doctorate in veterinary medicine from LSU. Strain married Susan Searcy a native of Hot Springs Arkansas. They have two children, Michael and Melissa.
Barbara Savant, Chamber executive director, said Dr. Strain is always welcome and has lots of information to share. She noted the local FFA (Future Farmers of America) Club from Kinder High will assist with serving people and delivering door prizes to winners. Some state student FFA officers will make an appearance.
The meal for the evening is the Chamber’s normal seafood gumbo, potato salad, dessert and drink, which is always a favorite.
Savant said the Chamber would like to thank their sponsors for this event: Allen Parish Community Healthcare, Market Basket, The Grand Church, Coushatta Casino Resort, CSE Federal Credit Union, Cleco, Jason Hebert Enterprises, JD Bank, Ramsey Vincent State Farm, Sheriff Doug Hebert and Louisiana Seafood.
All interested persons are invited to attend. She said if more information, is needed, please call 337-738-5945.
