Carpenter’s Bridge is being replaced. The project is underway and is scheduled to be competed around the end of July 2024, according to John Guidroz, public information officer for DOTD’s District Seven. Carpenter’s Bridge is located over the Ouiska Chitto Creek (also referred to as the Whiskey Chitto). The bridge was closed in October of 2022. Wesley “Sunny” Waldrop lives near the bridge and had reached out to the media about the closure several times over the past year. He is excited that work has began. He said there are approximately 20 odd pilings already driven. “It looks real good. They are making good process,” he said. Waldrop said locals have been speaking to the workers and learning about the project’s progress. He said if things keep moving along, they may finish earlier than July. “They are halfway across the creek with the pilings,” he said. “It’s looking good.” He said if the creek doesn’t flood, things should continue quickly. He also added he has no complaints now that the work has begun. (Photos submitted)
