The Allen Parish Police Jury issued a proclamation on October 23, to reinstate the burn ban in the parish.
Jury President Tony Hebert signed the proclamation, which based its wording on the danger of fire in the parish. “Whereas, the fire chiefs of Allen Parish have concerns and recommends limiting open burning in Allen Parish.”
The proclamation discusses the danger of fire and the parish will now be part of the burn ban. This means “all burning of trash and vegetation, as well as any other open burning is prohibited until the ban is lifted.”
There also is a 30-day ban on the “use, discharge or ignition of any projectile fireworks, including, but not limited to, bottlestick rockets, missiles, Roman candles or any and all cylinder-launched devices, in all unincorporated areas of Allen Parish with the exception of any public fireworks display presented through permit by the appropriate state and/or local agencies.”
The ban does not apply to prescribed burns by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry and by those trained and certified by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry.
The proclamation was signed and issued by the police jury. It is based on the state statute R.S. 33:1236.
