At the village’s council meeting on Monday, October 2, the council approved appointments, discussed the mayor’s salary and received updates on other ongoing projects.
The council reappointed Rusty Reeves to the Allen Parish Ward Three Fire District Board for a term of two years.
For years, the council has been working with Allen Parish Community Healthcare to bring rural healthcare services to the community. The council learned a 9-1-1 address was given to the Allen Parish Rural Health Unit and revised its cooperative agreement to match the address, 139 McFatter St.
In new business Alderman Glenn Ducharme proposed increasing the mayor’s salary in regards to the extra work Mayor Chris Guillory is performing in association with the town’s proposed new city hall and police department. He proposed increasing it by $500 for the duration of the project. City attorney Chad Guidry said it has been done for a clerk before but never a mayor. He is going to research it. It must be done by ordinance, so the council will revisit it at its next meeting.
The council agreed to hire David Vidrine for condemned property in the village. Vidrine will represent the property owners.
Police Chief Waylin Bertrand discussed a road study to see if the village would benefit from an officer using a hand held camera for traffic control purposes. The council decided not to do that at this time.
The council also approved its financial report and minutes for its September 11, meeting.
