At last month’s meeting, the Kinder Council set the groundwork to become eligible for Louisiana Community Development Block Grant Program (LCDBG) funding. At Monday’s meeting, October 2, the council gave its permission for Mayor Wayland LaFargue to sign applications for LCDBG funding for FY (Fiscal Year) 2024 to 2025.
The rest of the meeting was discussion of ongoing issues in the city and upcoming projects. Mayor LaFargue reported plans to replace the bridge at Park Road is going to be finalized soon.
Eric Fontenot, public works superintendent, discussed recent water leaks around town. The drought seems to be putting stress on old lines that are causing water issues. Fontenot said he is learning about the cutoff valves and tracing problems. He also reported the lines to the new Dollar Store were completed, and engineer Wesley Miller reported it was a 30 hour job. The water line had to be relocated because Dollar General was being built over a main line. The town’s workers helped to relocate the line.
The mayor added they are stocking shelves now and the store may be open by Monday.
Fontenot said they would be picking up limbs and doing other projects around the town since the water issues have been solved at this time. He said they also brought some old equipment on hand to auction.
