With a total of 117 points, the girls’ track team from Reeves High School won their second Class C state championship in three years. The team competed in the 2023 Ochsner LHSAA Track & Field Meet on Thursday, May 4, and finished ahead of Gibsland-Coleman, 71 points, and Simpson, 56 points.
“I have a good group of girls,” said head coach Bruce Williams. “We’re pretty solid from the field and running, so we don’t rely on just one thing. We’re pretty solid all the way through.”
Williams’ credits the leadership of this three seniors- Faith Cauthron, Kyndall Gill, and Maddison Ford. “They make the young girls work,” he said.
Hope Cauthron placed first in Girls 200 Meter Dash C with a mark of 27.35; Kelsey Williams placed second in Girls 400 Meter Dash C with a mark of 1:04.55; Sophie Bruchhaus placed fifth in Girls 400 Meter Dash C with a mark of 1:09.48 and first in Girls 800 Meter Run C with a mark of 2:38.41; Lauren Lenhart placed third in Girls 300 Meter Hurdles C with a mark of 52.44; Delores Jenkins, Kyndal Gill, Hope Cauthron and Paige Rannekleiv placed sixth in Girls 4×100 Meter Relay C with a mark of 57.28; Kelsey Williams, Maddison Ford, Lauren Lenhart and Hope Cauthron placed first in Girls 4×200 Meter Relay C with a mark of 1:54.88; Kelsey Williams, Maddison Ford, Lauren Lenhart and Sophie Bruchhaus placed first in Girls 4×400 Meter Relay C with a mark of 4:37.39; Paige Rannekleiv placed fifth in Girls High Jump C with a mark of 1.32m; Maddison Ford placed first in Girls Pole Vault C with a mark of 2.13m; Lauren Lenhart placed fourth in Girls Triple Jump C with a mark of 9.44m; Faith Cauthron placed second in Girls Shot Put C with a mark of 9.61m; Maddison Ford placed fourth in Girls Shot Put C with a mark of 9.16m; Nyla Williams placed second in Girls Discus C with a mark of 24.60m; Faith Cauthron placed fourth in Girls Discus C with a mark of 23.23m; and Faith Cauthron placed first in Girls Javelin C with a mark of 37.89m.
Several student-athletes from Oakdale High School participated on the second day of the competition on Friday, May 5.
Emani Young placed sixth in Girls 200 Meter Dash 2A with a mark of 25.79 and placed fourth in Girls High Jump 2A with a mark of 1.52m.
Marlee Hart, Akeelah Hobson, Emani Young and Kaylee Bradley placed fourth in Girls 4×100 Meter Relay 2A with a mark of 50.83 and placed fourth in Girls 4×200 Meter Relay 2A with a mark of 1:47.97.
Autumn Doyle placed eighth in Girls Discus 2A with a mark of 25.94m.
Khamell Jack, Christian Jones, Pierre Wade and Cedrick Allison placed fifth in Boys 4×200 Meter Relay 2A with a time of 1:31.49.
Pierre Wade placed third in Boys High Jump 2A with a mark of 1.88m.

Cameron Cavenah, of Reeves, placed fifth in Boys 200 Meter Dash C with a mark of 25.05.
Reeves’ Leon Jenkins, Tavian Broussard, Cameron Cavenah and Hunter Broussard placed seventh in Boys 4×100 Meter Relay C with a mark of 49.32 and Leon Jenkins, Tavian Broussard, Cameron Cavenah and Tavian Alfred placed seventh in Boys 4×200 Meter Relay C with a mark of 1:44.57.
Leon Jenkins, of Reeves, placed ninth in Boys Shot Put C at 9.21m.
In Boys 400 Meter Dash 1A, Sacred Heart’s Colby Cloud placed sixth with a mark of 51.89; Basile’s Tyler Newman placed seventh with a mark of 51.94; and Sacred Heart’s William Jorden placed ninth with a mark of 53.78.
Basile’s Tyler Newman placed fourth with a mark of 15.85 and Gavin Ardoin placed eighth with a mark of 17.89 in Boys 110 Meter Hurdles 1A.
Gavin Ardoin, of Basile, placed ninth in Boys 300 Meter Hurdles 1A with a mark of 44.90.
Oberlin’s Jayden Bokemyer, Braelon McCleon, Kristoff Brandon and Dominique Eaves placed fifth in Boys 4×100 Meter Relay 1A with a mark of 44.35.
In Boys 4×200 Meter Relay 1A, Oberlin’s Colby McMahon, Braelon McCleon, Kristoff Brandon and Dominique Eaves placed fifth with a mark of 1:33.02 and Basile’s Gavin Ardoin, Tyler Newman, Landon Johnson and Gage Craton placed ninth with a mark of 1:35.35.
