Elton leaders announced the community will move up to the state level of judging for the state’s annual Clean City Contest. Judging should be April 27.
In preparation of that judging, the community is asked to continue cleaning up around their homes and properties. Those needing to dispose of waste, remember the Small Yard Waste Pickup is the first Friday of each month.
“Grass, leaves, flowers, stalks, stems, tree trimmings, branches and tree trucks – less than two feet in length and less than two inches in diameter – will be picked up, according to Elton’s recent message to its citizens.
Yard waste must be in a container, bag or box that does not exceed 35 pounds. These requirements are strictly enforced by Republic Services Solid Waste. If you have large yard waste, please call City Hall so it can be reported to Republic.
There are eight districts, each with 10 population categories, in the annual Cleanest City Contest. The first round of judging was completed March 13, to March 17. The state judging will be conducted April 24, to April 28, and May 1, to May 5, if necessary.
Winners will be announced after judging.
The judging’s goal is to instill civic pride in the individual citizens, as well as the community as a whole. The contest has been conducted since 1958 by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc.
