Former Kinder High School baseball coach Kenney Courville will be inducted into the Allen Parish Tourist Commission Museum High School Hall of Fame, located in the Leatherwood Museum in Oakdale, on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 10 a.m.
Courville was inducted into the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame earlier this year at its banquet on January 13.
Courville coached for nearly 20 years, compiling a record of 409 wins and 181 losses, including 17 district titles, five state semi-finals and state championships in 2014 and 2015.
“It is truly humbling,” Courville said when he discussed this induction recently. “You couldn’t convince me that I deserve any of it.”
Being recognized and winning accolades is not why he began coaching or even teaching. Today, this father of six is serving the parish’s school district as supervisor of child welfare and attendance. “I enjoy it. I love my kids. I wanted kids to compete and do the right thing.”
Courville said his wins, accomplishments could not have been done without his team. He has worked with some great coaches, players and had some great school leadership.
“When it all comes down to it, I was just one of the luckiest people that I knew.”
He also said none of this would have happened without the support his wife, Dana. He said she let him do all “this crazy stuff, and things just fell right.”
So as he recalls his career, he said, “any accolades and awards belong to a whole lot of people; not just me. No one can do everything by themselves – it’s foolish. It’s takes a team (village) of people. I’ve been very blessed to have been surrounded by great people.”
Both Courville and his wife are educators in Allen Parish. They met at McNeese. He said if anything comes out of these honors, he hopes it is to illustrate to younger people that he’s just a guy from Allen Parish, who went to school here and graduated here. He was able to work here and spend his career in Allen Parish.
“Go out and be a success,” he said as he added this was a great honor and he is very appreciative to all including the Leatherwood Museum and the Tourism Commission.
The public is invited to attend.
