A Lake Charles man is facing stalking charges after allegedly approaching two young female juveniles in Oberlin for their socks.
The Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office began investing the stalking incident on Friday, March 3, 2023.
According to Sheriff Doug Hebert III, a male individual in a silver hatchback-style vehicle stalked two young juvenile females at the city park in the Town of Oberlin. The man allegedly circled the park for over 30 minutes.
“The juveniles left the park and left town in their vehicle. When the juveniles came back to town, the individual was parked nearby their residence and then began following them once again,” said the sheriff. “The juveniles pulled into a local business in Oberlin where the suspect entered the next driveway, exited his vehicle and approached the juveniles at which point he advised them he was doing a church scavenger hunt and needed their socks. The juveniles gave the suspect their socks and in turn, he gave them a gift card that was supposed to have $50 on it.”
Hebert said this was an unusual request. He also mentioned his office believes the gift card was purchased from a CVS store in Lake Charles. The gift card did not have any money on it.
The girls returned home and told an adult what had happened. This is when the sheriff’s office became involved.
Detectives began an investigation into the matter. The sheriff said with the assistance of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriffs Office’s Real Time Crime Center, detectives were able to identify the suspect as Daniel James LeBleu of Lake Charles.
As a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for LeBleu on Monday, March 6, charging him with stalking. On March 7, with the assistance of the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office, LeBleu was located and arrested. LeBleu is now booked into the Allen Parish Jail and is awaiting a bond hearing.
