The holiday month of December 2022 gave a positive sales tax collections report since only two accounts were in the red when compared to spending at the same time last year.
The bigger fund accounts in the parish, all had 44.78 percent of an increase in month-to-month comparisons in December. Both of the Allen Parish School Board accounts grew with #1 seeing an increase of $238,211.56 and #3 seeing an increase of $119,156.59. The police jury saw an increase of $83,409.71, and the sheriff’s office saw an increase of $119,156.54.
The funds associated with the areas of incorporation in the parish also saw increases. Oakdale received $33,946.54 (27.05%) of an increase in collections compared to Kinder’s $20,495.98 (39.01%), Oberlin’s $475.75 (2.46%), Elizabeth’s $779.47 (10.60%) and Reeves’ $2,503.98 (65.64%).
The Kinder Library/Sewage had an increase of $6,148.91 (39.01%). The two funds seeing decreases were the parish’s occupancy tax with a difference of $646 (which was 14.32% less) and the parish’s tourist commission with a difference of $2,023.92 (which was 14.32% less).
The total collection comparisons by the month showed an increase of $621,586.51 (41.61 percent). In December 2021, the parish collected $1,493,970.02 compared to collection of $2,115,556.53 in December of 2022.
Comparisons of year-to-date funds illustrated a different picture with the parish seeing lower collections in almost all of the funds. The only positive increases where in the school board’s two funds, the police jury, sheriff and Reeves. Overall, at the end of 2021, the parish had collected $19,948,152.17. In 2022, the parish collected $19,798,534.59 for a difference of $149,617.58 (or 0.75% less).
