The recent release of the September collections indicate an improvement from the previous month’s sales tax collections. There was less red illustrated in the report.
Leaders had pointed out over the last year that decreases would become apparent with the end of dollars spent associated with Hurricanes Laura (August 27, 2020) and Delta (October 9, 2020). The last three months have shown some decreases in the month-to-date comparisons. This report shows some collection increases in areas like the school board (#1 and #2 with a 12.91 percent ($71,737.37 more) and #3 with a 12.97 percent ($36,054.16 more), police jury ($25,238.90 for 12.98 percent increase), sheriff’s office ($36,054.24 for a 12.97 percent increase) and even some of the communities – Kinder (12.98 percent), Oberlin (0.75 percent), Oakdale (4.39 percent) and Reeves (17.53 percent).
The only negative collections were noted in Elizabeth (less 3.96 percent) and occupancy tax and tourism (both less 43.10 percent).
The total collected this year when compared to September of last year saw an increase of 11.35 percent ($177,956.15)
The year-to-date comparisons are still running in the red when compared to dollars collected last year. At this time, the parish has collected 3.70 percent less ($560,191.80) than at the same time last year.
