MEETING MARCH 10, 2025
The Allen Parish School Board met in regular session at the Allen Parish School Board Office in Oberlin, Louisiana, on Monday, March 10,2025, at 5:00p.m. with the following members present:
Karen Reed, President; Gregory Monceaux, Vice-President; Carleen Mahaffey; Sally Moreaux; Cathy Farris; Pete Cavenah; and Kristina LaBuff.
Absent: Carolyn Manuel
The meeting began with the invocation given by Kristina LaBuff.
President Reed recognized Oberlin High School and Kinder High School FBLA members for their achievements at the Regional FBLA Conference. FBLA sponsors Tanya Fontenot and Maria Bertrand presented each winner along with the specific areas in which they competed. A total of 28 students achieved Excellent ratings for their performances, while 17 students achieved Superior ratings. Those who earned Superior ratings will advance to the state competition.
President Reed recognized the School Level Teachers of the Year. Title 1 Coordinator, Melody LaFleur, celebrated the teachers with a video presentation featuring messages of encouragement and appreciation from students and colleagues. Additionally, the teachers received gift bags in acknowledgment of their outstanding contributions. The winners of the Allen Parish Teachers of the Year awards were also honored. The district-level recipients included Lana Knighten, Elementary Teacher of the Year from Kinder Elementary; Heather Cross, Middle School Teacher of the Year from Fairview High School; and Eric Kuyper, High School Teacher of the Year from Kinder High School. These distinguished educators were presented with a gift bag, the Golden Apple award, and a check for $200 in recognition of their achievements.
President Reed recognized Casey Ardoin with Kolder, Slaven & Company LLC to present the audit report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2024. Mr. Ardoin gave an oral review of the findings of the audit and the financial conditions of the Allen Parish School Board. His findings concluded that the Allen Parish School Board is in a good financial position.
Motion by Carleen Mahaffey, seconded by Gregory Monceaux, unanimously carried to approve the minutes of the February 10, 2025, regular meeting.
Motion by Gregory Monceaux, seconded by Kristina LaBuff, unanimously carried to approve the payment of bills authorized by the Finance Committee.
General Fund financial statement for the month ending December 3 1, 2024 was presented to the board.
Motion by Cathy Farris, seconded by Gregory Monceaux, unanimously carried to declare as surplus three 2000 International school buses and one 2003 Chevrolet school bus and authorize the superintendent to advertise for bids.
Motion by Carleen Mahaffey, seconded by Kristina LaBuff, unanimously carried to approve revisions to policy JCDAE- Electronic Telecommunication Devices and policy GAMD- Drug-Free Workplace.
Motion by Kristina LaBuff, seconded by Sally Moreaux, unanimously carried to approve an out-of-state trip for Elizabeth Faulk, Coordinator of Data and Technology, to attend the ISTELive 25-Edtech Conference, on June 28-July 2, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas.
Superintendent Soileau included the following items in his report to the board:
• Congratulations were given to district 7 board member, Kristina LaBuff. Mrs. LaBuff ran unopposed in the special election.
• Capitol Conference will be held on April 30, 2025.
• A reminder of the graduation dates.
• Tuesday, March 18, 2025, Special Education Community Engagement at 5:30p.m. The meeting will take place in the APSB board room.
• Spring break will be April l4-18, 2025. Monday, April 21, 2025 will be a virtual day for faculty and students.
• LEAP spring testing window will be open April 2, 2025 through May 14, 2025 for grades 3rd through high school.
• Congratulations to the Oakdale Lady Warriors and the Fairview Lady Panthers on their remarkable achievements in winning the girls’ basketball State Championships.
