On Thursday, June 20, the VFW Post 12203 hosted a flag retirement ceremony conducted by Richard Morgan and the leadership of VFW Post 12203.
Organizers were thankful for the turn out for everyone who wanted to participate in the ceremony or just wanted to witness the flag retirement ceremony. Many in attendance told organizers they had never seen it done before.
The organizers said, “We want to thank the Kinder city maintenance crew for cutting the rail easement, Allen Parish Fire District #4 for keeping the area safe and Allen Parish Mosquito control for spraying the area the day before the event. We also want to thank Coke of Lake Charles for the donation of drinks for the event.”
The KHS band director Jordan Moore provided a wonderful rendition of Taps for the ceremony.
The veterans were able to retire over 100 unserviceable flags that were collected over the last year in the community.
