The City of Oakdale received 10 trash receptacles through a Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) Grant to prevent litter.
The city was one of 71 recipients selected to receive this funding from the State Of Louisiana and Office of the Lieutenant Governor. The grant program awarded 628 receptacles to 71 organizations in 40 parishes.
As part of the requirements of this grant, the City of Oakdale will perform a post installation litter scan and compare the data collected to preliminary scan results. Data will be shared with the public once available.
Litter is hurting our quality of life in Oakdale says Mayor Gene Paul. “With these new receptacles installed, we will be able to reduce litter and keep our community clean and beautiful.”
The purpose of the KLB Trash Receptacle Grant is to reduce litter in public spaces by providing high-quality trash receptacles in communities throughout Louisiana. Data collected by KLB over the last several years shows a reduction of litter by 78% in areas where trash receptacles are properly installed and maintained. One of KLB’s key initiatives is to help build infrastructure that supports clean, beautiful communities. “Funding trash receptacles is one way we do that,” said KLB Executive Director Susan Russell. “It’s important to make available trash receptacles in public spaces to give people a way to do the right thing with their trash.”
Oakdale placed these receptacles in parks around the community – Seventh Avenue Park, Whatley Road Girls Softball Park and Ballard Road Park.
The next trash receptacle grant application will open at KeepLouisianaBeautiful.org on Thursday, August 15, 2024. Visit the site to learn more about other grant programs offered through KLB.
