The Kinder Council made quick work on addressing items on its agenda Monday evening including adopting an amended budget. A public hearing was held in regards to the ordinance. Then the council voted to adopt its amended budget for fiscal year ending June 30, 2024.
The council approved the minutes of its February 26, special meeting and March 14, meeting.
Eric Fontenot, public works superintendent, told the council they have been busy. He said there has been work on drainage in the Nixon Subdivision. He said 18-inch pipes are being replaced with 36-inch pipes. Two 40-inch culverts are being installed. They plan to dig a canal in the nearby wooded area. All of this is being done in an attempt to reroute water from the subdivision.
Mayor Wayland LaFargue said Fontenot has now passed his second tests for wastewater certification. Fontenot has one test remaining, and the mayor said he will save the town about $40,000 a year. He will be certified to take care of the wastewater plant.
Fontenot added upgrades are being installed over the next few months. In the past, technical issues at the plant were not known until sewage backed in a home or etc. Fontenot said the new system will feature a call-out system that notifies him and others by phone when issues arise.
An update on the bridge on Park Road suggests things are moving forward and will include landscaping. The mayor added the process to replace the bridge is about six months but good weather, etc. could mean its completed in two months. He believes this could be done in mid summer.
Town Clerk Traci Fontenot asked the council to consider accepting the Municipal Water Pollution Prevention (MWPP) annual report as prepared by C3 Environmental Services LLC.
