The parish’s monthly tax collections report was good for the second month in a row. Last month and January’s collections only showed red in the parish’s occupancy tax ($2,661.47 less in collections) and tourist commission ($7,984.33 less in collections). In February, Elizabeth also saw a decrease in collections ($413.81 less in collections).
The bigger tax bases for the school board, police jury and sheriff showed an average increase of 37 percent in February. The smaller communities also saw increases during the month.
January’s report indicated a total increase of $731,371.19 in monthly comparisons, and $479,735.94 in February’s monthly comparisons. (January current monthly collections were at $2.27 in 2024 compared to $1.54 in January of 2023, and $1.95 in February 2024 compared to $1.47 in February 2023.) In its yearly comparisons, the parish saw an increase of $731,371.19 increase in January compared to $1,211,107.13 increase in February.
In February, the school board’s #1 and #2 tax base saw an increase of $202,12711 in its monthly comparisons; school board #3 saw $101,071.47 more. The jury’s increase in monthly comparisons was at $70,749.86, and the sheriff was at $101,071.47.
Incorporated communities seeing growth in tax bases included Kinder (an increase of $4,782.18), Oberlin (an increase of $773.90; Oakdale (an increase of $8,668.31) and Reeves ($116.68.)
