PUBLIC NOTICE ALLEN PARISH SCHOOL BOARD MEETING FEBRUARY 5, 2024 The Allen Parish School Board met in regular session at the Allen Parish School Board Office in Oberlin, Louisiana, on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. with the following members present: Karen Reed, President; Gregory Monceaux, Vice-President; Pete Cavenah; Carleen Mahaffey; Cathy Farris; Sally Moreaux; and Kevin Tyler. Absent: Carolyn Manuel The meeting began with the invocation given by Carleen Mahaffey. President Reed recognized Sophie Bruchhaus, Kinder High School FF A Member, as the Louisiana State Champion Creed Speaker. Ms. Bruchhaus will attend nationals in October. President Reed recognized Sullivan Fontenot and the Kinder High School Horse Judging Team. The students recently competed in the state competition. Kinder High had two teams competing in a career development event and earned a 1st place award and a 4th place award. The 1st place team has qualified for national competition in October. President Reed recognized Casey Ardoin with Kolder, Slaven & Company LLC to present the audit report for the fiscal year ended June 30,2023. Mr. Ardoin gave an oral review of the findings of the audit and the financial conditions of the Allen Parish School Board. His findings concluded that the Allen Parish School Board is in a good financial position. Motion by Kevin Tyler, seconded by Gregory Monceaux, unanimously carried to approve the minutes of the January 8, 2024, regular meeting. Motion by Cathy Farris, seconded by Kevin Tyler, unanimously carried to approve the payment of bills authorized by the Finance Committee. Motion by Gregory Monceaux, seconded by Carleen Mahaffey, unanimously carried to declare as surplus a golf cart and lawnmower at Oberlin High School and authorize the superintendent to advertise for bids. Motion by Sally Moreaux, seconded by Pete Cavenah, unanimously carried to approve the Allen Parish School Board District Hearing Officer List. Motion by Carleen Mahaffey, seconded by Pete Cavenah, unanimously carried to approve an out-of-state field trip for Fairview High School teachers Janessa Ramos, Candace Morrow and Melony Morris to bring 4th and 5th grade students to Shangri La Gardens in Orange, Texas on March 15, 2024. Motion by Kevin Tyler, seconded by Pete Cavenah, unanimously carried to approve an out-of-state trip for Sponsor Sullivan Fontenot and Kinder High school FFA students to attend the Houston Rodeo on March 4, 2024 in Houston, Texas. Motion by Gregory Monceaux, seconded by Carleen Mahaffey, unanimously carried to approve the 2024-2025 Allen Parish District Calendar. Superintendent Soileau included the following items in his report to the board: 1. The school board members were invited to the School Health Advisory Council meeting which will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024. 2. A reminder was given about the Teacher of the Year Luncheon which will take place on February 23, 2024. School Board members were invited. 3. Stacy Weldon presented the board with a signed copy of the book “My Louisiana Sky.’’ She also presented the board with the Literacy Policy Implementation Checklist. She reviewed all key points. 4. Supervisor of Child Welfare & Attendance, Transportation & Special Services, Kenny Courville, gave a brief maintenance report. Oakdale High School maintenance projects should all be complete by March. The materials for the reroofing project at Oberlin High School should be delivered in two weeks. Reeves High School has a full time SRO. All schools have recently undergone active shooter training and all reports are good. 5. Mardi Gras break will take place from February 12-14, 2024. 6. The board was given the superintendents monthly newsletter and reminded about the LSBA Convention taking place March 10-12, 2024. 7. Mr. Soileau thanked Mrs. Lynnsey McClusky and her staff for a job well done with the audit. 8. All High Schools will be on block schedules next school year.
