OBERLIN – Upon the recommendation of Mayor Larry Alexander, the Oberlin Town Council hired Browdie Reese as new town clerk during its meeting held Monday, March 11. The hire comes after the departure of previous town clerk, Haley Champagne.
As Mayor Alexander explained, the new clerk’s salary will be set by ordinance after a public hearing is held. The mayor further explained the legislative auditor advised the clerk’s salary will be a set salary rather than being hourly. “No matter how many hours she works,” he said, “she does not get overtime.”
The council will account for the extra hours, according to Mayor Alexander, when setting the clerk’s salary. “There is always overtime in that position just like tonight and any other meetings that we have,” he said.
The mayor will recommend a salary at next month’s meeting.
In other business, the council:
•Approved Wilton Trahan to move a mobile home to 116 7th Avenue.
•Approved a resolution of procurement policy and procedures and a resolution to adopt residential anti-displacement and relocation assistance dealing with the blighted property resolution grant.
•Approved a resolution for the Municipal Water Pollution Prevention Program.
