If you follow the monthly tax collections for Allen Parish, then January’s report brought a smile. The only red on the list was for the Allen Parish Occupancy Tax and Allen Parish Tourist Commission accounts. Figures for the monthly and yearly comparisons also were up.
In monthly comparisons, the previous year’s totals were at $1.545 million compared to this year’s totals at $2.277 million. The increase was at $731,371.19 or 47.31 percent. Last month, the monthly comparisons were at $2.115 million in 2022 and $1.675 million in 2023 for a decrease of $440,263.62.
In the monthly comparisons for January, the School Board #1 and #2 collected $844,502.02 for an increase of $282,743.59. The School Board #3 collected $422,247.80 for an increase of $141,425.44. The solid waste fund for the parish’s police jury collected $295,573.98 for an increase of $98,997.79. The sheriff’s tax base also saw an increased collection of $422,247.80 for an increase of $141,425.45.
The incorporated communities seeing increased collections in January were Kinder (increased $22,546.96 for a total collection of $71,233.44), Oberlin (increased $5,676.33 for a total collection of $18,782.06), Elizabeth (increased $1,366.74 for a total collection of $8,337.93), Oakdale (increased $33,582.00 for a total collection of $159,299.89) and Reeves (increased $695.90 for a total collection of $4,899.05). These numbers came from the month-to-month comparisons between January 2023 and January 2024.
