The monthly tax collection report illustrated collections were down in the monthly report as well as the yearly comparisons.
In the monthly comparison, every government agency saw a decrease when compared to collections in December 2022. The parish collected $440,263.62 more in December 2022 than in December 2023.
The school board’s two accounts, along with the police jury and sheriff collected about 21.46 percent less in December this year compared to last year during the same time period. Allen Parish School Board #1 and #2 collected $770,541.56 in 2022 and $605,201.09 in 2023. Allen Parish School Board #3 collected $385,267.31 in 2022 and $302,569.98 in 2023. The jury collected $269,688.02 in 2022 and $211,799.54 in 2023. The sheriff collected $385,267.31 in 2022 and $302,569.98 in 2023.
In the incorporated areas, Kinder was down 27.56 percent ($52,910.39 compared to $73,042.54). Oberlin collected 37.49 percent less ($19,814.62 in 2022 to $12,385.71 in 2023), and Elizabeth collected $983.43 less ($8,133.97 in 2022 to $7,150.54 in 2023). Oakdale was $9,910.77 short ($159,428.58 in 2022 to $149,517.81 in 2023), and Reeves received $2,740.43 less ($6,318.94 in 2022 to $3,578.51 in 2023).
The yearly report indicated 2023 ended on a positive total of $22,352,539.31 in 2023 overall to $19,798,534.59 collected in 2022 for a difference of $2,553,005.32 (12.889 percent). For 2023, the only government bodies with negative year-to-date totals were Kinder (-5.08 percent), Oberlin (-20.88 percent), Elizabeth (-14.08 percent), Oakdale (-1.16 percent), Kinder Library/Sewage (-5.08 percent), Occupancy Tax (-17.19 percent), Tourist Commission (-17.19 percent) and Reeves (-6.44 percent).
