As part of the National US History Day and Louisiana History Day fair events, Kinder High School hosted its first US History Fair on Tuesday December 19, according to Eric Kuyper, U.S. History and Speech educator at KHS. The topic was “Turning Points in History.” Fifteen groups competed. The top three groups would be invited to the regional contest in Natchitoches, which will be held March 9, 2024. If the students win at regionals, they will go to the World War II Museum in New Orleans in April. The winners from the state contest will go to nationals in Maryland in June. Topics for the presentations varied from The Revolutionary War, Woman’s Suffrage to 9/11. First place was the Invention of the Refrigerator by Reagan Bryans, Taliyah James and Tranisha Mitchell. Second place was 9/11 by Jared Chaumont and Tyler McGee. Third place was The Space Race by Gentry Parker, Aiden Sheppard and Kolin Edwards. The students also got a visit from staff at the Allen Parish School District. The staff walked the fair, along with three members from Speaker of The House Mike Johnson’s office. It was a pleasure to have Speaker Johnson’s office at the school talking to students about their projects and answering questions.
