The Kinder Chamber of Commerce’s annual Farmer/Rancher Supper will be Tuesday October 3, at the Kinder Community Center.
All farmers and ranchers, along with vendors, banks and other associated with the industry, are invited to the event. Shrimp and crab gumbo with potato salad, dessert and drink will be served.
Guest speaker will be Lillie Adams Wiley, assistant director of the communications division for Dr. Mike Strain, DVM, Commissioner of Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF).
Wiley is a Louisiana native and LSU College of Agriculture alumni. She has served the LDAF for the past 15 1/2 years. She has worked in numerous roles within the department. Most notably, she has been a part of the Louisiana Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Program – “Stay Rooted.” She resides in Northwest Louisiana in DeSoto Parish with her husband and two active boys. She serves on numerous agricultural boards in her area and is always there for her agriculture and forestry community.
Wiley will focus on the “Stay Rooted Louisiana” program during her speech.
She said, “While general stress and mental health awareness has been more normalized across industries, agriculturalists are still disproportionally affected by challenges related to stress, anxiety and depression. LDAF’s ‘Stay Rooted Louisiana’ program is one of the department’s newest initiatives and aims to address farm stress among Louisiana’s agriculture communities. The program’s goals are to raise farm stress and mental health awareness, provide training, and build resources. Stay Rooted Louisiana will be discussing their preparedness guide and the importance of gathering personal and farm documents. This is extremely critical for disaster preparedness, disaster recovery efforts and estate planning. Planning for life’s unknowns and knowing you and your family is prepared is a stepping stone of reducing stress and anxiety.”
There will be door prizes.
