The Louisiana Press Association (LPA) released the names of winners in editorial and advertising categories on Tuesday, July 18, via a live webinar.
The Kinder paper won several awards.
Raymond Partsch and Carissa Hebert both placed in the headline category. This category emphasizes “a play on words.”
Partsch won first place with “Bucking her Grief: Oberlin’s Manuel honors father with continued passion for outdoors.” The story featured an Oberlin resident, whose father shared his passion of outdoors and hunting with her. After his death, she continues to enjoy those passions.
Hebert won second place for a headline written after the Allen Parish Police Jury received a clean audit. Her headline was “APPJ audit is clean again.”
Partsch won first and third place honors for two sports stories he wrote for the paper. Third place was for “Bucking her Grief.” First place honors was for “Will Power,” a story about a sports team cheering on one of their own, an athlete fighting cancer.
Hebert won third for an In-Paper Promotion campaign. “Score some points” was an ad the paper used to ask parents to support its annual football edition.
This contest featured 830 entries from 30 LPA member publications across the state, including college, university and student newspapers. The MDDC (Maryland, Delaware and the DC areas) judged this year’s contest.
Hebert said she would like to thank the staff. These accomplishments would not be possible if teamwork didn’t exist in the office. She said this is a great staff, and everyone deserves a big congratulations.”
