Joining former Allen Parish Sheriffs Claiborne Durio and Hal Turner as president of the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association is the current chief law enforcement officer of the parish, Doug Hebert III, who took the oath of office at the Allen Parish Courthouse on Thursday, June 22.
“It’s an incredibly big honor that is not lost on me,” expressed Sheriff Hebert, who is now the 78th president of the association. “I never would have dreamed this in a million years.”
Outgoing president and current sheriff of Franklin Parish, Kevin Cobb, remarked, 63 other parishes believe in the man whom Allen Parish residents believe in to lead the parish in everything that he does.
“They believe in him, and we believe in him,” Sheriff Cobb said.
“We know this next year is going to be a great year under his leadership, and we’re proud and excited for the things,” he continued.
Sheriff Cobb went on to say, “Stand behind your sheriff because there’s times he’s going to be out representing you somewhere else while he’s representing us somewhere else. He’s going to need your help. He’s going to need your support to fill in the gaps when he may not be there because he’s not just serving you. He may have to be at other places at times. Don’t make him feel like he’s not where he needs to be, because he’s going to be bouncing from one place to another.”
“We truly believe he’s going to do great things,” continued Sheriff Cobb. “I’m excited, and, if I have to pass the gavel over to anybody, I want to do it to Sheriff Doug Hebert.”
Administering the oath as president was Doug Hebert Jr. who commented, “This kinda reminds me back when I’d call out words for him to spell when he was in the first grade. I’m a very proud dad.”
