The Kinder Cemetery Association (KCA) will present its 27th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 29, at the Kinder Bible Church (702 Fourth Ave., Kinder).
The association’s annual Avenue of Flags also will be on display in the Kinder McRill Memorial Cemetery (1610 Kinder Cemetery Road, Kinder). The cemetery currently has 165 veterans interred, including Southwest Louisiana’s only Medal of Honor recipient buried locally, First Lieutenant Douglas Fournet, killed in action during the Vietnam War.
The KCA invites everyone to join them in paying tribute to all who’ve made the supreme sacrifice in America’s wars from the Revolutionary War to the present time. Also, to view the inspiring display of the Avenue of Flags in the cemetery before or after the service.
Eric Kuyper, Louisiana Department of Veterans’ Affairs Commissioner, commander of the American Legion Post 244 and Captain US Army (Retired) will deliver the Memorial Day address.
In the tradition of Civil War times, young flower girls from the community will place fresh flowers on a symbolic grave.
Southwest Louisiana Chapter 215, Vietnam Veterans of America, will serve as Color Guard and Honor Guard.
A Roll Call and Tolling of the Bell will be conducted for the veterans buried or memorialized in the cemetery.
The ceremony will last approximately one hour and will end with a 21-gun salute and the traditional playing of “Taps”.
