The beginning of a new year usually means a clean slate. However, sales tax collections for Allen Parish are still illustrating a downward trend. Every account in the collections report illustrated red or negative figures when compared to collections collected during the same time frame in the previous year. The parish collected $1,545,769.46 in 2023. This was $372,977.67 less in 2022 – $1,918,747.13. The school board’s two tax accounts, #1 and #2 – and #3, were down respectively with $137,176.82 and $68,506.95. The police jury collected $47,955.38 less while the sheriff also saw a decrease of $68,506.94. Oakdale saw the biggest loss among the incorporated areas with a negative $20,205.39 followed by Kinder with $14,911.30 less.
