Funeral services for former Reeves mayor Scott Ralph Walker, 61, were held Wednesday, January 11, at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Kinder.
Walker served Reeves as an alderman and then mayor of Reeves from 2005 to 2018. He was appointed interim mayor upon the resignation of the former mayor Shelley Tyler. He also served as the volunteer fire chief of the Reeves Fire Department.
Chris Guillory, mayor of Reeves, who worked under Walker as an alderman, wrote on the village’s Facebook™ page, “Myself and the office of the Village of Reeves would like to express our sincere condolences to former mayor Scott Walker’s family. Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of Scott. Scott was an instrumental tool in the advancement and development of the Village of Reeves. He proudly served as mayor and serve well.”
Guillory added, “Above everything, Scott made sure everyone knew that he loved the Lord and that all of his decisions were going to be filtered through how the Lord would lead him. Scott also made sure we knew how much he loved and cared for his family. Scott was always bragging on his children and telling us about their achievements. A recent phone call from Scott telling me he was proud of the job I was doing as mayor and to continue pushing forward will continue to motivate me to give my all to this village. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with his family as they face the difficult times ahead. But there is no doubt Scott is rejoicing in the presence of his Lord and Savior.”
Walker was born in Kinder to Betty Joe and Benton Walker. He was the youngest of five children. He met his wife, Sandra, in trade school and they were married at Oakhill Church in Oakdale on January 9, 1982. The couple had four daughters and one son (Sandy, Candace, Heather, Hannah and Scott). He was a long time employee at Northrop Grumman where he was an airplane mechanic.
He loved music and could play a wide variety of instruments. He loved to grill and insisted on having many taste testers. Walker was a very devoted Christian and loved studying the Word of God. He taught Sunday School at his family church for many years. He never met a stranger and was known for giving the best hugs. His life motto was “Always leaving them laughing when you say goodbye”.
