Organization of the Allen Parish Tourism’s annual 60-plus mile Re-Thunk Junk Flea Market Trail, set for October 21, and 22, is underway.
The trail begins on U.S. Highway 190 in Reeves and travels to Kinder before turning on U.S. Highway 165 and going toward Oberlin. In Oberlin, the trail branches out in two different directions. It goes to state Highway 26 to Mittie. From there, travel back to Oberlin and head toward Oakdale on U.S. Highway 165. In Oakdale turn on state Highway 10 to Elizabeth. Participants will be setting up their sales along this route.
Adagria Hancock, tourism director for the parish, said those who will set up hot spots on properties operated by the tourism group –– Kinder’s Allen Parish Welcome Center, Oberlin’s Veteran Memorial Park and Oakdale’s Leatherwood Museum. This is where multiple vendors will be located. To be at these sites, you must complete an application and submit it to the tourism board. (The information can be found at www.allenparish.com/events/re-thunk-junk).
Family and friends can create their own hot spots by getting together to conduct a multiple family garage sale on their own properties along the route. When you do this and you have five or more vendors, be sure to call the tourism and give them the information (address). They will place groups of five or more on their map on the tourism website, so interested persons can locate large groups along the trail.
“This is bargain hunting at its best along the 60-plus mile trail, rain or shine,” Hancock said. “Whether you are a vendor or a junker-at-heart, there is plenty to keep you busy.”
The event opens at 7 a.m. on Friday, October 21. Please call us for more information on how to register, at the Allen Parish Tourist Commission at 888-639-4868. “Anyone can participate. All are welcome,” she said.
