The July sales tax collection report does show decreases, however, the report does indicate the parish is holding pretty steady with a very slight decrease for the period of June 2022.
Reports have steadily shown declines but those collecting taxes have explained collections associated with repairs made from Hurricanes Laura (August 27, 2020) and Delta (October 9, 2020) and the winter storm in February of 2021 are ending. Over the last few months, the comparison totals are shrinking as fewer and fewer purchases related to repairs are being made. Most residents have completed those repairs now.
In June, the report indicated the monthly totals were at $1,699,670.34 and the year-to-date collections were at $9,796,768.88 for a difference of a negative $408,128.89 between 2021 and 2022. That deficit in July when comparing the year-to-date current totals to the previous year had only grown to a negative $436,947.42. Last month the percent report indicated the parish had a negative four percent in comparisons. In July’s report, that percentage was at a negative 3.64 percent.
The report is compiled each month by the tax department at the Allen Parish School Board.
