In the shadows of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center and under the watchful eye of Mike the Tiger, several track and field athletes from Allen Parish participated in the 2022 LHSAA State Outdoor Meet held at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium. Two of them, Jaslyn Russell, of Oakdale, and Chloe Peloquin, of Oberlin, emerged as state champions.
Russell won first place in Girls Shot Put 2A with a mark of 11.52m. She also finished sixth in Girls Javelin 2A with a mark of 30.23 and fouled out in Girls Discus 2A.
Peloquin, for the third year, won first place in Girls Pole Vault 1A with a mark of 10-06.00.
The meet began on Thursday, May 5, with Class B and C events.
Unofficial results had Faith Cauthron from Reeves leading in Girls Shot Put C after one flight. Cauthron, also finished third in the state in Girls Javelin C with a mark of 29.32m.
Ian Thompson, from Elizabeth, finished in sixth place in Boys Long Jump B with a mark of 5.59m.
In Girls Triple Jump C, Lauren Lenhart, from Reeves, finished fifth with a mark of 9.45m. She also placed sixth in Girls 100m Hurdles C with a mark of 21.72.
Also from Reeves, Maddison Ford finished second with a mark of 6-00.00 and Kyndal Gill finished third with a mark of 5-06.00 in Girls Pole Vault C.
Nyla Williams, from Reeves, placed fourth in Girls Discus C with a mark of 21.67
Reeves (Paige Rannekleiv, Maddison Ford, Laine Richard, and Lauren Lenhart) finished third in Girls 4x200m Relay C with a time of 1:59.49 and second in Girls 4x400m Relay C with a time of 4:45.49 (Sophie Bruchhaus, Maddison Ford, Laine Richard, Hope Cauthron).
Hope Cauthron, from Reeves, came out in second place with a mark of 13.24 in Girls 100m Dash C, third in Girls 400m Dash C with a time of 1:06.72, and third in Girls 200m Dash C with a time of 28.23.
Sophie Bruchhaus, also from Reeves, placed second in Girls 800m Run C with a time of 2:35.80.
Lanie Richard, of Reeves, placed fifth in Girls 300m Hurdles C with a time of 56.95.
As a team, the Reeves Lady Raiders finished second in Class C with 85 points behind Gibsland-Coleman’s 98 points.
The events in Class 1A and 2A were held the following day on Friday, May 6.
Oakdale’s Pierre Wade finished sixth in Boys High Jump 2A with a mark of 6-00.00.
In Girls High Jump 2A, Emani Young, of Oakdale, placed fifth with a mark of 4-10.00
Emma Johnson, of Oberlin, placed fifth in Girls Javelin 1A with a mark of 31.39.
In Boys Long Jump 2A, a pair of Warriors placed. Aiden Jones finished second with a mark of 6.55m, while Cade Dauzat finished fourth with a mark of 6.52m. Dauzat also placed fifth in Boys Triple Jump 2A with a mark of 13.18m.
Another pair of Warriors also placed in Boys Javelin 2A. Logan Hargrove finished second with a mark of 48.24m, while Seth Longino finished seventh with a mark of 43.54m.
Sage Wolfe, of Oberlin, placed eighth in Girls Shot Put 1A with a mark of 9.23m.
Fellow Lady Tiger, Tearra Frank, placed sixth with a mark of 27.67m in Girls Discus 1A.
The Oberlin runners in Boys 4x200m Relay 1A (Colby McMahon, Seth Lyons, Demarius Williams, and Dominique Eaves) finished eighth with a time of 1:33.59. In the same event of Class 1A, the Oakdale runners (Khamell Jack, Cedric Allison, Christian Jones, and Aiden Jones) placed fifth with a time of 1:32.45.
In Girls 100m Hurdles 1A, Elton’s Mya Harmon placed third with a mark of 16.11.
The runners from Oakdale in Boys 4x100m Relay 2A (Dutton Dieterich, Cedric Allison, Aiden Jones, and Christian Jones) placed third with a time of 42.92.
Kinder’s Madison Howell, in Girls 300m Hurdles 2A, finished in seventh place with a time of 51.38.
In Boys 300m Hurdles 2A, Oakdale’s Khamell Jack placed seventh with a time of 42.35.
The Oberlin runners in Boys 4x400m Relay 1A (Demarius Williams, Kristoff Brandon, Demarcus Williams, and Bryce Landry) placed fourth with a time of 3:43.51.
As a team, the Oakdale boys finished in fourth place with 31 points. The top three were Lafayette Christian with 68 points, Episcopal with 57 points, and Joneboro-Hodge with 54 points.
