November’s sales tax collection report released in December continued to show some declines, but the overall picture was not as negative as the October’s collections indicated when released in November.
Last month’s report featured red or a negative amount change in month-to-month comparisons between 2020 and 2021. This month’s report, illustrated the only negative changes were reflected in Kinder’s collections (-$2,679.40), Town of Kinder Library/Sewage (-$803.93), Allen Parish Occupancy Tax (-$1,268.47), Allen Parish Tourist Commission (-$3,805.29) and Reeves (-$1,481.39). However, the overall totals continued to show increases in month-to-month comparisons ($1,457,278.83 in 2020 to $1,493,970.02 in 2021 for a 2.52 percent increase) and year-to-year total comparisons ($16,983,307.88 to $19,948,152.17 for an increase of 17.46 percent) during the same time period.
The rest of the accounts for the tax call showed slight increases in comparisons (see chart above). The Allen Parish Sales Tax Collections’ office continues to monitor and collect sales taxes with a report each month. They indicate the parish is seeing an end to the increased tax base due to repairs made within the parish related to the two hurricanes of 2019 and hard freeze of 2021 that hit the parish hard.
The biggest increase in month-to-month comparisons in December’s report for November 2021 illustrates the Allen Parish School Board #1 and #2 received $15,627.85 more in November of 2021 than in November 2020. The Allen Parish School Board #3 also saw an increase of $7,784.25, along with the police jury at $5,449.49; Oberlin at $3,414.26; Elizabeth at $641.36; Oakdale at $6,028.14; and sheriff’s office at $7,784.29. Increased revenues in the parish is always a good sign for growth, improvement and other public services.
